An old man and an old truck. Both entered the fire service shiny and new. They had their first fires, and probably improved from things that went right or wrong. They now both show the years of abuse of this rugged career. Faded paint, broken parts and a few cracks. As I sit here looking with respect at these two legends, I realize I will never know the battles that both have faced. But know time spent with either will humble me. So I encourage everyone to search out for the "old", listen to their stories, tactics may change but the "classics" stay the same... They've fought more fire than you, and bet your ass they were more aggressive in their tactics. To all of the "antiques" out there...thank you, I look forward to hearing your stories.
